Creating your own website

So you got this great idea for a website. You know already that you're going to want people to be able to access it by typing www.mygreatwebsite.com in their browser, and you have some idea of how it's going to look like and what kind of functionality you want there. But you have no idea how to convert that vision into a real website. So I'll try to give you some idea about it.

Since I know myself, I'm not promising to go too much in depth. It's not that I don't want to, but it'd be a lot of work, so I'll start with just some info, and I know I'll get bored after a while. But if you push and prod me, I might expand it to answer your questions (or simplify it if you tell me your eyes glazed over and you fell out of your chair). Also, don't expect me to tell you much about web design. I mean, just look at my own sites. All I can do is write text.
